Rick is out riding with his
sons
Pastor
Rick telephoned our offices after
seeing a photograph of the Step 'n Go in action on the front
page of our local newspaper. Just from seeing the photo, Rick
commented, "That looks like a very interesting bike - I bet
I could ride it. I have cerebral palsy".
Rick
explained that he had two young boys. One was just beginning to
learn to ride a bike and he thought it would be fun to go biking
with them. When his Step 'n Go was delivered, his two sons came
running out of the house. Laughing, one of them said, "Aww,
Dad, you can't ride a bike..." But before the young man
could finish his sentence, Rick was off and away, riding down
the driveway, leaving his awestruck son standing there amazed.

Rick
needed three adaptations to fully complete his bike. One was the
crutch holder to hold his forearm crutches to the handlebars
while he's riding. The second was the variable resistance
selector (our first) for the treadles which make it easier for
Rick to propel the Step 'n Go. And the third was his suggestion:
foot straps to keep his legs aligned and his feet from wandering
on the treadles.
Since
then, Rick has been biking with his sons (pictured above Karl, 9 and
Peter, 5) and having a ball.
P.S.
– Rick later purchased a Quickstand so that he could continue
“biking” through our long winter season and be in shape for
spring.
