“It
feels much more natural to use my legs again”
David
sustained a traumatic brain injury accompanied by a C2 fracture 17 years
ago, resulting in partial paralysis of his legs plus additional
neurological challenges. During the summer of 1994, David called us to
ask if we would meet him behind a local shopping mall so that he could
give the Step 'n Go a private test ride. He found the Step 'n Go easy to
transfer to and also that he could easily power it by weight shifting
from one foot to the other. David promptly purchased a Step 'n Go and
began riding it regularly.
Injuries
to David’s right leg inhibit his full range of motion; however, the
Step ’n Go treadle system lets him compensate by taking steps of
unequal height. The unique 'stepping action' of the treadle transmission
lets David exercise his legs without overstraining them. He loves the
feeling of gliding along on his bike.

David
enjoys his increased mobility and frequently takes his Step ’n Go when
shopping at the supermarket. The weight bearing, aerobic, reciprocal
motion exercise complements his regular swimming schedule. David summed
it up best by saying “It feels much more natural to use my legs again
rather than just my arms ... plus it’s comforting to know that my
sense of balance is being reinforced. And besides being functional,
it’s fun!”.
P.S.
– David rides his bike in all types of weather, except for snow. A
little routine preventive maintenance from his local bike shop assures
David of a safe and reliable Step 'n Go.
